Here’s to 2024

Life can be messy, overwhelming and yet unbelievably enticing.

I want to do everything, all the time.

But of course… I can’t.

Time, money, resources, and my emotional capacity all impact my ability to do all the things. So, in 2024, I’m focusing on 3 things:

WRITING

PHOTOGRAPHY

MY LIFE

Writing, hotography, and the rest of my life. Those are my focsus areas in 2024. I mean, those are 3 big areas to focus on (as well as working FT, social life, etc) but you know, I’m ambitious, I’ve always been ambitious.

So, I’ve set myself a number of goals this year, including first draft of novels, printing photographs, etc) and I plan on achieving them. To do this I’ve learnt that I can’t do everything, I actively have to say no to things, and take things off my plate. I decided to make a “No 4 Now” list. It’s not always easy to say no things, people, events, hobbies, expereinces, indulgences, new recipes but I can tell you, it’s easier to say no, for now. Instead of trying to do everything, I’m goign to focus on doing less.

Me and everything are no longer friends.

In order to get to where I want to go, and achieve the things I’ve said I want to achieve I’ve chosen three words for 2024 -

PROCESS

CONSISTENCY

&

CONFIDENCE

Process because I can’t spend my life planning. I do love planning, it’s the execution that gets me.

Consistency because to achieve your goals, whether getting fit, breaking a habit, writing a novel, it’s about doing little and often, or little by little. You can’t go to the gym once and get gainz, you have to go twice a week for six months. You can’t write a novel in a week, you have to write a couple of thousand words every couple of days. It’s not easy, heck no. But consistency will get you places.

And finally confidence - I feel I’m often held back by anxiety and fear, sometimes I don’t even realise it, so this year I’m about finding and growing my confidence. In all areas of life!

So if you’re interested in reading about a person aspiring to be a published writer, or someone who wants to get better at taking photos then tune in. I’ll be writing regularly about those two things.

Or, if you just want to read about the life of an Edinburgh woman, wanting the world and stressing out about how to get it then buckle up, because 2024 is going to be a hell of a ride.

Little by little, we’ll get there,

Dominique
