LOOKBACK: May 2024

May was a full month, I should perhaps chill out a little bit, looking back it’s wild how much I squeeze into 30 ish days on top of work and being an adult (ie doing the dishes, making food, and occasionally hoovering)

Some highlights include hosting our first Book Swap Picnic with WomenWhoWrite Edinburgh! it was so fun and we even hosted another one in June which was just as fun! The idea being that we get together in the park, bring luncha nd book you’d like to swap with a fellow writer/book worm.

I tried to eat the rainbow, I always try to eat the rainbow really, some days yes I cave and get a delivery or eat a whole beige plate, but usually there’s lots of oats, fruit, veggies, and fermented stuff like sourdough.

I made it to Lannan Bakery!! Ok so it was a wee bit pricey but holy moly it was good. I warn you the queues are massive so take a chair and a decent book.

Mountain Biking! A new thrilling experience, I geneuinely thought I’d get hurt but it was an absolute blast, I’ve been again since and did a harder and longer route. It was so tough cycling up and up and up through a forest over thick roots, huge stones, round tiny tight bends but boy, with a wee bit of support and encouragement you get to the top and then … whoooooooshhhhh. It’s down down down you go at speeds that make your eyes water but man it’s fun.

We also tookd a trip to Kielder Observatory in Northumberland Forest. That was so cute, fascinating and yes, cliche to say, very very dark. Whilst it was too cloudy to look through any telescopes it was still interesting. I got to stand on Mars - literally.

I spotted the cat on the rood at the Stockbridge colonies wee bric-a-brac community market. Lots of houses participate by opening up their gardens and selling art, bric-a-brac, homemade food/cakes, plants and the like. It’s a cute afternoon out and I got to try some homemade columbian food which was delicious.

Finally, photography! I did manage to take a few photos across May. I also went to the Stills Gallery in Edinburgh and peaked at their latest exhibition which was a series of posters for other exhibitions that they’ve held over the years. It showed an incredibly wide range of photographers and shows - must visit again!

One absolute highlight of May was getting my photos printed which I write about here. I’ve been wanting to get them printed for years but never got around to it or maybe it was fear that held me back. I’m not sure, whatever it was I managed to overcome it in May after lots of test printing. To me they look like oil paintings, which, as a style, I love. You can buy one here on my etsy shop!

Thanks for reading, see you next month,

Dominique
